Environmental concerns are among some of the most urgent issues we are facing in the 21st century. These concerns need creative solutions. The desire to be part of a solution may attract you to explore our programs; learning about the academic program and where it can take you is what will bring you to the School of Environment & Natural Resources. The School of Environment and Natural Resources can be the place where you grow that interest as you pursue an undergraduate degree that is one of a kind in the state of Ohio.
WHO WE ARE
The School of Environment and Natural Resources is an interdisciplinary program focusing on the science and management of natural resources and the environment in harmony with its human dimensions. What does this mean for our students? It means your curriculum will have classes from a variety of disciplines both in and outside of the School of Environment and Natural Resources. This variety gives you an understanding of the relationship between the disciplines and provides a foundation of knowledge that you will build upon.
YOU CAN EXPECT
We offer small school charm within a large university. The School has less than 400 undergraduate students; this allows us to provide personalized services to all of our students. Whether you are a new freshman just beginning your college career or a transfer student with two years of college course work completed, as a student in the School of Environment and Natural Resources you can expect support and guidance to get you on the right track from the start.
The Student Services Team is your support network offering academic advising, career counseling, and assistance with everything from scheduling classes, paperwork, to general information about the school and university. You will work with an advisor to find the program that best fits your academid goals, interests and strengths. This may include adding a minor to your program of study, pursuing a dual degree with another academic unit, or engaging in an honors program of study. After deciding on your program of study you will be assigned a faculty advisor in your field of study. Your faculty advisor will serve as a resource for you as you select course work in your program, begin career planning or contemplate graduate school.
YOUR SUCCESS
We want our students to be successful after they graduate. Success won’t just happen. have to plan for it, set goals and work hard to achieve it. You’ll need a combination of education, training, experience in the field, and leadership skills. We can show you the opportunities, you have to take advantage of them. Getting involved in a student organization is a great way to get training, develop leadership skills, network, and learn about the opportunities in your chosen field. Internship experience is vital to be competitive in the job market. Student organizations and internships are just two examples of the opportunities you will have while a student in the School.
YOUR FUTURE
Our graduates are employed in a variety of careers that include positions such as environmental scientists, ecosystem managers and researchers, environmental educators, foresters, park rangers and administrators, resources management specialists, and technicians. There are a great variety of jobs out there for our graduates, and Career Services can show you how to make yourself competitive for them. Our students also prepare for admission to graduate or professional programs such as environmental law, veterinary medicine, science education, as well as public policy and administration.
