SENR Student Organizations

Making Connections
Student organizations offer a valuable and fun component to your overall student experience.  At last count here at Ohio State there were over 800 student clubs.  The clubs range in areas of interest from social, religious, artistic, service-based, to academic.  If you have a hobby, Ohio State probably has a club for it.  If eating pizza is your passion, then join the Pizza Club.  If you enjoy running, you guessed it, there’s a Running Club.  Joining a club is a great way to relieve stress from class and work, meet other people with similar interests, and just have fun.  We encourage students to take advantage of them.  In addition to the hundreds of clubs the university has to offer, consider joining one of the student organizations offered here in the School of Environment & Natural Resources.

Membership has its benefits
Membership in a club that is aligned with your major offers you many benefits. Let’s start with the obvious, meeting other students with similar academic interests.  Getting to know people on campus makes the university a lot less big and helps you feel connected.  Your peers can be a source of helpful information; sharing experiences on internships and classes.  Another benefit is the opportunity to gain skills related to your field.  Often times student organizations will organize or participate in an event that allows its members to gain hands-on experience.  These experiences translate into skills that may help you when applying for internships.  Meeting professionals in the field and staying current with trends are two additional benefits from being involved.  Several times a year student organizations host professionals to attend their meetings and share with students their experiences in the field, their own career path, and insights on job outlook.   Students who are active in a student organization develop leadership, team work, communication, and time management skills.  Employers like to see these skills in new college graduates.
