Patrick Bell (left) and Christopher Johnson (right), graduate students in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) have received grants for their research proposals from the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center's SEEDS program. Patrick Bell is a doctoral student in SENR and received the award for his research proposal, "Sustainable Intensification for Improving Soil Quality and Adapting to Climate Change in the Uluguru Mountains of Tanzania". Patrick works under the guidance of his advisor, Dr. Rattan Lal. Christopher Johnson is an MS student in the Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences specialization advised by Dr. Lauren Pintor and received the award for his research proposal, "The Indirect Effects of Biological Invaders as a Novel Prey for a Native Predator".
The SEEDS: The OARDC Research Enhancement Competitive Grants Program, Graduate Research Competition is designed to provide graduate students an opportunity to gain experience with research methods in their fields of study and to introduce students to the grant-writing and peer-review process. The program also stimulates faculty-graduate student collaborations and mentoring of students by OARDC and CFAES faculty.
