The Value of Networking for Environmental Career Success

The SENR Seminar Series welcomes David Hanselmann
, Lecturer and Environmental Professionals Network Coordinator, OSU School of Environment and Natural Resources, who will present The Value of Networking for Environmental Career Success.

David Hanselmann’s principal career spanned 35 years at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources headquarters, including 20 years as assistant chief then nine years as the chief of the Division of Soil and Water Conservation, and during his final two years also serving as chief of the Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention. At ODNR his responsibilities included support for Ohio’s 88 soil and water conservation districts, with 440 elected board members and over 500 staff – and helping them network and partner with a myriad of local, regional, state, and federal agencies, NGOs, universities, and the private sector, as well as Ohio’s residents and landowners. He led development of scores of agency programs to meet a broad range of environmental, natural resource, social, and economic goals. Joining OSU’s School of Environment and Natural Resources in the fall of 2011, he quickly created a network of advisors to conceptualize then roll out an Environmental Professionals Network. He now coordinates EPN’s 1800 and growing participants and plans diverse-topic monthly networking breakfast meetings and even larger annual signature events. His seminar will share insights on the value of networking, and best ways to effectively engage others, to meet one’s personal and organizational goals.

The Seminar begins at 4:10 p.m. in 103 Kottman Hall and will be available at carmenconnect.osu.edu/careers/.
