Professor Rattan Lal was awarded an Honorary Degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, MN on October 2 for his contributions to the Nobel Peace Prize-winning intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and his lifetime work studying soils and soil conservation. On July 24, the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) recognized Professor Rattan Lal with the UIMP Medal of Honor for his outstanding academic merit. The Medal of Honor recognizes Professor Lal for his defense of the environment and his work on soils as a living body and a key element in global change.
Professor Lal received the Medal of Honor during a ceremony held at the course III Environmental School Tatiana Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno Foundation at the Magdalena Palace in Santander, Spain.
While in India recently, Professor Rattan Lal was interviewed by television station Rajaya Sabha. In the interview, he spoke with T V Venkateswaran about the fundamental importance of soil and the integral relationship between the quality of soils, the health of people and the environment.

Rattan Lal, Distinguished University Professor of soil science in the School of Environment and Natural Resources was recently honored at a reception held on April 4, 2016, and hosted by Ohio State University President Michael Drake and Vice President for Research Caroline Whitacre. The reception honored Ohio State faculty members who received national or international awards during the period 2015-2016 and whose achievements reached outside or across academic disciplines were also recognized.
