Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an exotic pest
that has killed millions of trees in the Detroit, Michigan
area where it was introduced. The pest is moving toward Ohio
and has now been found in a number of other states including
Ohio. Most of the finds in Ohio have been in the Northwest
part of the state. The work in Ohio is being conducted in
cooperation with the Departments of Entomology, Plant Pathology,
Horticulture and Crop Science, and the School of Natural Resources
at Ohio State University as well as the United States Department
of Agriculture and the USDA Forest Service.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has recently been more
commonly used to manage trees in Ohio. The City of Cincinnati
has used this technique longer than other Ohio community.
GIS allows us to follow the extent of EAB in the state.
