Detailed Job Description
Assistant to help the Fish Collection Coordinator with collection of fish specimens and data from those targeted streams and lakes; maintains field, laboratory and biological specimen collection equipment and supplies; assists with entry of fish collections in the Ohio Biodiversity computer database; analyzes data; contributes to the development of the project and the lab; assists with administrative duties associated with a research project including purchasing research supplies, photocopying, drive motor vehicles and preparing correspondence as needed.
% Duty Description
80% Collection of fishes in the field from Ohio's lakes and streams.
10% Entry of fish collection data in the Ohio Biodiversity Database.
10% Assist with maintenance of equipment for fish collection.
Minimum Education Requirement
Bachelors Degree or equivalent education/experience
Experience
Familiarity with computer programs like Word and Excel, ability to lift at least 50 lbs. from the floor, ability to swim, are required. Expertise in identifying freshwater native fishes of Ohio, experience in proper collection and storage of DNA material and collection of fish using various collecting equipment including backpack, long-line and boat electro-fishing units, various nets (seines, dip-nets and trawls), snorkeling and scuba diving is desired.
