Antarctic Ice Sheet Evoluation and the Earth Climate

The Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center Winter Seminar welcomes Flavio Justino, Universidade Federal de Vicosa, who will present Antarctic Ice Sheet Evolution and the Earth Climate.

This seminar will focus on climate response to distinct configurations of the Antarctic Ics Sheet based upon modeling experiments simulating the mid-Miocene interval (23-17Ma). Moreover, it will address the large-scale climate anomalies induced by the retreat of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). Generic sensitivity tests of the global response to a smaller WAIS, as presented here, have relevance to both past interglacials when WAIS retreated and possibly to the future when WAIS will be affected by anthropogenic forcing.
