Autumn 2013 SENR Seminar Series

Nov 7, 2013, 4:00pm - 5:30pm

The SENR Seminar Series welcomes Ms. Divya Gupta, PhD Candidate, OSU School of Environment and Natural Resources, who will present Collaboration and Enforcement Mechanisms: Community-based Natural Resource Management in Ohio and the Indian Himalayas.

Natural resource management agencies around the world are increasingly collaborating with local communities. Studies have found that these local communities can be capable of developing their own policies, rules for resource management, and mechanisms for enforcement.  The importance of agency-community collaboration for effective enforcement via monitoring and sanctioning has been established across diverse ecologies and countries, yet the causal pathway of development of such enforcement policies is still unclear. The present study fills that gap by adopting mixed-method, comparative case study approach where cases from two different democracies India and the US are examined to identify the variables that shape and influence the formulation of rules and enforcement mechanisms.

The SENR Seminar begins at 4:10 p.m in 103 Kottman Hall with a video link to 123 Williams Hall on the Wooster campus.
