Managing Grasslands for Wildlife

Aug 9, 2013, 9:00am - 3:30pm

Ohio’s grasslands, historically and present day, are important habitat for a number of wildlife species. In this all-day workshop, we will discuss this impor-tance, and how best to manage grasslands for wildlife—from bobwhite quail and pheasants to songbirds and pollinators.

We will cover management tools from mowing to burning to disking to herbi-cide treatment, and discuss the establishment of grasslands and the best spe-cies mixes to use.

This class will begin indoors in the morning and end outdoors with a tour of the Hinckley Reservation grasslands where we will identify prairie grasses and wildflowers.

Registration is open till August 2nd on the Ohio Woodland Stewards website. The cost is $35/person and includes lunch.
