Spring 2014 SENR Seminar Series
The SENR Seminar Series welcomes Gretel Van Wieren, Assistant Professor, Michigan State University Department of Religious Studies, who will present Ecological Restoration as Public Spiritual Practice.
The practice of ecological restoration is the attempt to repair ecosystems that have been damaged or degraded, most often by past human activities. Restoration includes everything from removing dams to planting native trees and wildflowers to controlling invasive species to recontouring land. This presentation argues that one of the ways in which restoration practice reconnects humans to nature is in a spiritual and a moral sense. In addition to performing ecological work, restoration performs sacred work and serves as a form of public witness.
The SENR Seminar begins at 4:10 p.m in 103 Kottman Hall with a video link to 123 Williams Hall on the Wooster campus.
