SENR caught up with Dr. Pintor and Ms. Pocock to find out more about what students discovered and how these in-field class experiences make a difference.

    School of Environment and Natural Resources Associate Professor Steve Lyon recently convened a session entitled “Let citizens with smartphones modernize water resources management” at World Water Week. This year’s global event, with 13,000 participants from 188 countries attending the conference, had the theme of Water Security for All.

    With NSF Investment Team to Study Use of Unmanned Aerial Systems to Monitor and Predict Wildland Fire Behavior in Eastern Forests

    School of Environment and Natural Resources faculty member Roger Williams is a Co-Principal Investigator on a newly funded $872,967 National Science Foundation (NSF) National Robotics Initiative grant to explore the integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into prescribed wildland burn projects. The purpose of the investment is to understand how topographic, atmospheric and forest fuel factors in temperate hardwood forests influence fire intensity and rate of spread through real-time data activation in fire behavior models.

    Sustainability Appoints Faculty Member as Editor-in-Chief of New Section Area

    School of Environment and Natural Resources faculty member Steve Lyon has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief for the new Sustainable Water Management section of the MDPI journal Sustainability.  Sustainable water management means to ensure using water in a way that meets both current and future socio-economical ecological demand. This section is aimed at improving the development and utilization of sustainable water resources management to meet increasing water demand worldwide. This section will provide information for water managers for managing water by applying sustainable solutions with a foreseeable risk.

    Ohio State Professor Stephen Gavazzi learned a painful truth about Land Grant Universities — just after his book on the subject went to press. Now he’s working with a team of Ohio State faculty to find a path to healing harm done to indigenous tribes when they lost lands to fund the university through the Morrill Act of 1862.
