Our graduate programs prepare students with the expertise needed to work in the public or private sectors in research, public policy development, environmental and natural resource management, and more.

The Environment and Natural Resources Graduate Program (ENRGP) is the academic home for a group of graduate students and faculty within the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) who share a common interest in improving our understanding of the environment, our natural resources and our ability to protect and manage them. Our students and faculty are engaged in research, education, and learning in a variety of areas in the natural and social sciences.

Research programs

Master of Science (MS)

The Master of Science (MS) in the Environment and Natural Resources Graduate Program is a research degree that engages students in course work, study, and research leading to the production of a scholarly master’s thesis and publication in refereed, professional journals.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Environment and Natural Resources Graduate Program is an advanced research degree that prepares students to pursue high-level, independent, scholarly research.

Professional practice programs 

Master of Environment and Natural Resources (MENR)

A non-thesis, course-based degree that focuses on applied environmental and natural resource science and management. This program is designed for current environmental professionals and those who aspire to transition into this important field of practice.

Degree enhancements for Ohio State students 

Graduate minors

Open to current, degree-seeking Ohio State graduate students not enrolled in ENRGP who are interested in developing deeper expertise outside of their primary academic area.

Certificate in Environmental Assessment

The graduate Certificate in Environmental Assessment prepares current and future professionals in the fundamentals of environmental and social impact assessment.
