Dr. Wuyang Hu, Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, The Ohio State University will kick things off and keep things local. Many of you might already work with Dr. Hu or engage him through programs like Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (InFACT)? His seminar explores behavioral economics in connection with environmental and resource economics and ultimately informing decision making processes.

Dr. José Vicente López Bao, Universidad de Oviedo-Campus de Mieres, joins us to cover integrating quantitative and multidisciplinary approaches to achieve solutions to ecological, conservation and management problems through creative and collaborative scientific research. Dr. Bao is being co-hosted by the Environmental Professionals Network (EPN), the Center for Human-Animal Interactions Research and Education (CHAIRE), and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife (DOW).

Dr. Clint Carroll, Ethnic Studies, University of Colorado Boulder is slated to talk with us about Native American environmental knowledge, practices, and justice; political ecology; ethnography; Indigenous governance; tribal natural resource management; social-ecological health; Indigenous land education; Cherokee studies. Graduate students helped identify Dr. Carroll as a speaker and we look forward to solid engagement.

Dr. Ramiro Berardo, School of Environment and Natural Resources, The Ohio State University will make the long walk to consider how academics can work alongside traditional publication outlets (e.g., journal pubs or conference presentations) to utilize non-traditional outlets such as documentary film making as a tool for collaboration and research. Not only is Dr. Ramiro’s work cool, but we’re also testing how it looks to bring SENR presentations into seminar, based on some recent faculty thoughts and feedback.

Dr. Gene-Hua Crystal Ng, Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of Minnesota joins us to present on her work around building trust relationships with native communities regarding wild rice research. She’ll cover some of the ecohydrological modeling of vegetation vulnerability and resilience in the Mojave Desert. Given Dr. Ng’s range of expertise and experience, we’re in for a treat.

Dr. Thaddeus Miller, School of Public Policy, UMASS Amherst rounds out our lineup. His work focuses on interdisciplinary research collaborations and research-community partnerships to advance urban sustainability and resilience, from the local to the international level. We’ll hear how his efforts connect issues related to resilience, equity, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
