Spring semester is a bustling time for our team here in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR).
We celebrated 155 undergraduate and graduate students who completed their degree at a garden party on May 5 held on the patio at Kottman Hall in lead up to commencement. It was great to come together and honor this milestone and I hope our newest alumni will stay connected through our ENR Alumni Society and Environmental Professionals Network.
Our (ENRGP) secured offers for 14-separate fellowship awards through university and college-wide competitions, including three 3-year fellowship awards for PhD applicants. We were also able to allocate four fellowships to meritorious students. In the fall, our ENRGP will welcome ten students with a total of 13 separate fellowships.
I am also delighted to share SENR will welcome three new faculty over the summer! Jim Ippolito will join on July 1 as Professor of Soil Health; Natasha Myhal will join August 15 as Assistant Professor of Indigenous Environmental Studies; and Mikaela Schmitt-Harsh will join as Assistant Professor in Urban Forestry and Restoration. With these arrivals we will have forty-five faculty in SENR. We are in the final phase of our search for another faculty position and hope to announce their arrival soon.
We have a variety of educational outreach events planned in the summer we hope you will join, including our celebration of Ohio’s Environment and its champions on June 5. The program will include the induction of additional members of the Honorary 100. Details on the program available here.
Sincerely,
Eric Toman
Professor and Interim Director
