Leadership News

Five undergraduates were recognized for their leadership at the annual membership meeting of the Environment and Natural Resources Alumni Society (ENRAS) on April 20, 2023.  Antonio Zodda, Dani Alabyadh, Grace Gutierrez, Anna Rose, and Emily Kruse (shown in the photo above) received the 2023 Lee Johnston Leadership Award. The award was presented by Kevin McCarty, ENRAS Vice-President. The award recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate outstanding student leadership and involvement in the School of Environment and Natural Resources. Please join SENR in congratulating our student leaders!

Suzanne Ferencak, administrative associate with SENR was invited to join the Wooster Campus Staff Council. Suzanne shared, "I was asked to join the Wooster Campus Staff Council and had my first meeting on Tuesday.  I enjoyed meeting the group and working through plans for fun upcoming campus events including three festivals:  Fun Fest – July 21st with pizza and ice cream for everyone on campus, the Chili Fest, and the Fall Fest featuring the Bug Zoo and pumpkin painting." Suzanne also shared the committee is engaged in a wide variety of other initiatives and is comprised of members from all over campus.

The Environmental Professionals Network celebrated Earth Day with networking, performance and conversation on April 19 at the Fawcett Center in Columbus, OH.

"Art, agriculture, and advancing the relationship of Black people on land" featured a reception with an interactive gallery display, Black On Earth, 26 senior Capstone posters on display - demonstrating application of the knowlege gained as students at Ohio State and collaboration to address real needs of stakeholders and clients in our communities, a dance performance by Brother(hood) Dance! and a program with Dr. Tiffany Bourgeois, assistant professor of Arts Management at Ohio State’s Department of Arts, Administration, Education and Policy, who discussed creative inquiries into art, racial justice, agriculture, and the creation of green community spaces. Jera Oliver and Adrienne Williams, co-founders of Growing and Growth Collective joined Dr. Bourgeois on stage for continued discussion of blending the arts, agriculture, and community using culturally relevant and evidence-based programming.

June 5 - Join the Environmental Professionals Network and the ENR Alumni Society to honor and celebrate Ohio's Environment and its Champions. The EPN Breakfast and Summer Field Tour event will recognize and celebrate the contributions of Jon Gerken, John O’Meara, Ric Queen, and Dorothy Teater as the four newest members of the Honorary 100. Thereafter Bill Stanley (state director, The Nature Conservancy in Ohio) will share the importance of natural resource management in Ohio and creating diverse partnerships to solve Ohio’s water, landscape, agricultural and forest conservation challenges. Participants will then have the opportunity to experience one of Ohio’s landmark research sites for environmental restoration and natural resource management, Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory with highlights of the work of the CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration to advance crop management education and research, and research on a 28-acre forested site led by SENR Associate Professor Matt Davies to examine the effects of honeysuckle removal strategies, advance native pawpaw studies, and to study forest conservation grazing. | Registration available here

STONE LABORATORY is offering 

LAKE ERIE SPORT FISHING:  KNSFHP 1140.05

This physical education course is an introduction to techniques and equipment used in Lake Erie sport fishing featuring daily Lake Erie angling trips with lectures that include related aquatic science information. Prerequisites Completion of one-year high school biology course.

OEHHA is actively recruiting both experienced scientists and recent graduates to join our team.
