Hello SENR! 

Welcome to our first edition of Announcements for SENR in 2022! Yes, that's right, 2022.

As always we have some interesting development and learning opportunities planned this month and next for students and professionals with our faculty and staff engaged in delivering or coordinating these opportunities. 

Faculty member Risa Pesapane will be delivering the Keynote, “An ecosystem perspective on ticks and wildlife” at the 62nd Ohio Wildlife Management Conference on January 21. Postdoctoral Scholar Kristina Slagle, will present during the morning session, “Lessons learned from deer and private lands conservation stakeholder surveys” and in the afternoon, faculty member Jeremy Bruskotter will present, “Implications of shifting public values for wildlife conservation in Ohio: Toward a shared vision of conservation.”

The Ohio Woodland Stewards program will explore the impact of climate change on maple syrup production at their upcoming webinar on January 13, "Extreme Weather and Other Climate Change Considerations in Maple Syrup Production."

Congratulations to the 14 alumni and friends who will be honored at the annual CFAES Alumni Awards Luncheon on March 2022. Meet the honorees, including Ilhami Yildiz, MS ’87 Agronomy, PhD ’93 Agricultural Engineering and Pamela Thomas, MS ’90 Rural Sociology, retired CFAES Program Manager of Student Success and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Andrew Shea, quantitative associate, Global Sustainable Finance, Morgan Stanley and SENR alum joins the January 18 EPN program, "Sustainable Investing: Decarbonizing portfolios and financing green development" to share his work to develop innovative financial and investment products and solutions and offers research-based and experiential perspectives on market trends, and advice on leading informational resources that are influencing future directions in the sustainable investment field.

Alum Connor Rosenblatt is lead author on the research article in The Journal of Wildlife Management, "Are northern bobwhites an umbrella species for open-land birds in Ohio?"  To assess this question, the authors utilized bird survey data from the second Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas (2006–2011) and land cover data from the 2011 National Land Cover Database.
