Please welcome Dr. Jim Ippolito, who is a new faculty member in the School of Environment and Natural Resources. Dr. Ippolito is a professor of environmental soil health with a career focused on improving environmental soil fertility/chemistry/microbiology/soil health within agricultural, shortgrass steppe, grazed, burned, and metal-contaminated mined-land ecosystems. His research program connects the intimate linkages between soil macro- and micro-nutrients, trace and heavy metals, microbiological activity, and soil physical attributes, and how these factors combine to influence ecosystem sustainability, resiliency, food, climate and environmental security. 

Recognition

Congratulations to Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory who were recognized nationally for conservation education from the Garden Club of America (GCA). The programs were presented with the Margaret Douglas Medal at the GCA’s 2023 annual meeting on May 23 in Columbus for “outstanding” clean water research and educational leadership. | Read more >>

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has named Greg Lipps, who recently joined the SENR as recipient of its 2023 Commitment to Conservation Award. Lipps, a leader in Ohio amphibian and reptile conservation understands the vital role zoos play in conservation. Gregg serves as the amphibian & reptile conservation coordinator in the Ohio Biodiversity Conservation Partnership, a long-term relationship between Ohio State and the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Read more >>

Faculty member Jeff Hattey, a professor of soil science and state Extension specialist in soil management, provided the first research-based soil science response and co-led the on-site work as part of the CFAES Crisis Rapid Response Team for East Palestine, which was honored last week with the 2023 Spirit of the Land-Grant Award. Read more >>
