SENR faculty Dr. Rattan Lal and Dr. Shoshanah Inwood are presenters at Food Tank 50 State Summit Tour "Nourishing America" on World Food Day, Oct. 16, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. The tour will take place over four years and is a regional partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations North America, International Fund for Agricultural Development, and the World Food Program USA. 

Jill Clark, associate professor, John Glenn College of Public Affairs is the lead organizer at Ohio State for the tour stop in Columbus, Ohio on World Food Day, October 16. Dr. Clark is a SENR alum (BS '95) and provides statewide leadership for the Ohio Food Policy Network, national leadership as an advisory board member for the Food Policy Network, international leadership as the president of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society, and local leadership as an appointment member of the city and county local food board. Clark recently was awarded the 2022 Excellence in Engaged Scholarship from the Engaged Scholarship Consortium.

Sunday, October 16, 2022, in partnership with Ohio State University, the UN FAO, OFPN (Ohio Food Policy Network), and NPR.

The ENR Alumni Society and the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) celebrated the 2020 inductees to the ENR Honorary 100 on Sept. 30. A reception was held in Kottman Hall to recognize four individuals, with leadership in environment and natural resources and special interest in the school, its programs and activities through their involvement in events, programs, scholarship, professional development, donor support, and related activities. Thanks to all that joined to recognize our honorees, including Daniel Balser, Lorraine Winters Krzyzewski, Mark Dilley and Dr. Jerry Bigham (shown above with certificates). ENR Alumni Society President Neal Sargeant presided over the ceremony to induct the 2020 honorees with SENR Interim Director and Professor Eric Toman providing opening remarks. Dean Kress joined the celebration to congratulate the honorees. Read more.

Faculty member Alia Dietsch received a recent funding award for, "Monitoring visitors and their experiences at National Wildlife Refuges, US Fish and Wildlife Service." Congratulations, Dr. Dietsch!

SENR faculty member Scott Demyan and graduate student (and assistant coach for Ohio State's Soil Judging Team) Margaret Borders are panelists for the film screening hosted by the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association policy program of Kiss The Ground, a 2020 film unpacking the ways in which soil may be the key to combating climate change on October 30.

October 12: And Water For All, a film, written and directed by faculty member Ramiro Berardo will premiere on PBS Western Reserve on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m.  The station has a viewership of 5.1 million people and serves northeast Ohio and western portions of PA.

October 14: Ohio Woodland Stewards offers Fascinating Woodland Fungi - Registration is closed - this program is full!
Fungi of many types can be found in every woodlot throughout Ohio.  They get overlooked, ignored and/or avoided by visitors to the woods because people don’t know what they are, have limited knowledge, or have been misinformed as to their importance or dangers. Fungi are quite intriguing once one gets to know them, their life histories, their ecological importance and their diversity. Come join us for a day in the woods of learning what these fascinating organisms are and the beauty they possess.

October 24: SENR Internship Forum, Kottman Hall 1st Floor Lobby, 1:45-5pm. Stop by and learn about summer internship experiences of our students at the 2022 SENR Internship Poster Forum! SENR students will be showing posters about their summer internships on Monday, Oct. 24 in the Kottman 1st Floor Lobby. The event is from 1:45-5pm. Poster presenters will rotate throughout the event, with over 80 posters to visit in total. Drop-ins welcome. For more information click here!

October 26: Invasive Plants: ID, Removal and What's Next - This class will cover identification and removal options for some invasive plants that many of us deal with day in and day out.  Once you know what it is and how to get rid of it what should you do next?  We will cover options for dealing with the site after removal of the invasives and discuss plant options as well.  Learn more | register

For Students: Multiple Career Fairs in Fall  – Attend Them All!
Fall is the time to start looking for spring and summer jobs and internships. Join the CFAES virtual fair on Nov. 3rd. Different employers will be at each fair, so plan on attending both. SENR students should also check out other career fairs at OSU, including the OSU Fall Career & Internship Fair and the Science Career Fair. New Zealand: Sustainable Tourism and Human Impacts on the Environment 
Spend 3.5 weeks in May on New Zealand’s South Island learning about ecotourism, land use, wildlife conservation, geology and glaciation, agriculture, and Maori history pre- and post-colonization. Attend an information session to meet resident directors and learn more!

Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment
Students on the Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment program spend 3.5 weeks during summer term in North Queensland, Australia, surveying environmental issues including water scarcity and quality, the impacts of rising ocean temperatures, wildlife conservation, and more. The group examines conservation and restoration efforts while snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, hikes in the Wet Tropics Rainforest, studies the agricultural and mining industries, and learns about the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities pre- and post-colonization.  Attend one of the upcoming information sessions to learn more!
