Speaking of Trees, plan to join the Environmental Professionals Network (EPN), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry, and a well-rounded team of Ohio leaders for Hemlock-ed In! From Cleveland’s parks to the Hocking Hills, meet our leaders conserving one of Ohio’s most spectacular evergreen trees on the evening of December 5. Celebrate one of our most beloved evergreens and how we can advance hemlock conservation and protect these trees and the unique ecosystems they foster on public and private lands across the region.

Not only does October bring changing leaves, but also Bat Week (Oct. 24-31) AND the 2nd Annual Ohio Bat Festival being held this weekend on Oct. 29 (from 3-7:00 p.m.) at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. If you aren't able to join this weekend to learn all about bats, be sure to check out tomorrow's (Oct. 26) Ohio Woodland Stewards webinar, "Managing Forests for Bats." Wildlife Program Director Marne Titchenell will be on hand for both to share expertise.

Funding News

The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) announced three grants totaling $474,550 as part of the Achieving Conservation through Targeting Information, Outreach and Networking (ACTION) program. ACTION supports projects exploring how to increase landowner willingness to adopt conservation practices that provide a range of ecosystem benefits. SENR Global Education Scholarship Accepting Applications

The School of Environment and Natural Resources is pleased to offer financial assistance for full-time, undergraduate SENR majors to participate in OSU sponsored, credit-bearing global education programs related to the environment and sustainability. This financial assistance is meant to reduce barriers to access for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in global education opportunities.  Preference is given to students with acute financial need and limited or no international experience. The scholarship application is due November 30th, 2023. Call for Abstracts: Student Posters

Abstracts are being sought for posters featuring student research projects. Abstracts can be submitted here. WMAO will award 1st and 2nd place prizes ($250 and $100, respectively) for the posters that best capture and explain the research project. Conference Details available here.

Nominate a graduate teaching associate for the Graduate Associate Teaching Award

Every year, the Ohio State University Graduate School recognizes the exceptional teaching provided by graduate teaching associates (GTAs) through the Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA), which includes a one-time $2,000 award and recognition at the annual Graduate School Awards Ceremony.

Any Ohio State student, faculty member, or staff member may nominate a GTA for this award. The nomination is anonymous unless you choose to identify yourself. Eligible nominees must have taught for at least one full semester as a GTA.

To submit a nomination, use this Qualtrics form. Nominations are due by November 15, 2023 at 5 p.m.

After nominations have closed, the Graduate School will contact all nominees who meet the full eligibility requirements. Any nominee who wishes to accept a nomination and compete for the award may attend an information session and submit an application packet.

The nomination period has been extended to Friday, Nov. 3, for the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer and President and Provost's Award for Distinguished Faculty Service. The university community is invited to submit nominations for these awards.
