Resilience through Fire featured Ohio State faculty Elena Irwin and Roger Williams and Jack McGowan-Stinski, program manager for the Lake States Fire Science Consortium.

Deadline Soon! Apply now for Outreach and Engagement Staff Grants

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is offering two new grants for university staff. The Outreach and Engagement Community Programs and Events Grant provides staff the opportunity to create and implement community engaged programs, while the Outreach and Engagement Professional Development Grant provides staff funding to further their career growth and development. Both grants are for a maximum of $500 and applications are due on Sept. 30.  

CFAES Staff Advisory Council is Accepting Staff Professional Development Award Nominations by Sept. 30

The staff professional development awards provided by the CFAES Staff Advisory Council are to help supplement the costs associated with travel and fees for professional development opportunities for regular full-time or part-time CFAES staff members. This is a one-time reimbursement for expenses related to professional development activities, not to exceed $250. The application deadline for this second round is Sept. 30. Professional development award recipients have one year from the date of approval to use the award.

The application is posted at cfaessac.osu.edu/professional-development. Staff members who receive an award in the second round of 2021 will be contacted by the CFAES SAC staff recognition taskforce at the end of October.

You're Invited! Running for Agricultural Resilience in Africa - 5k & 10k Run/Walk Fundraiser - To benefit Bethel Agricultural Association

Come to Wooster and enjoy the fall weather, the beautiful OARDC Arboretum, and maybe later after the event take a drive through Holmes County and Amish country. Sign-ups have to be by September 19 if a t-shirt is desired, although we will probably have a few extra for day-of-race registration. Walkers are also welcomed and my grandchildren (ages 3-7) will be walking the course with their parents. If people cannot attend, they can sponsor a runner and that runner could be me, as I plan to run the 5k course.

Proceeds will be used to construct at our project site in Ethiopia (1) a building with guest rooms and a computer/reading room that will provide resources such as scanners, internet access, and donated books/materials and (2) a dining/kitchen building to serve teams staying onsite for education programs.

Decision Sciences Collaborative - Small Research Grants

Small grants of up to $3000 are available to support Decision Sciences research at Ohio State. The goal of these competitive grants is to foster new Decision Sciences research activity and collaboration. Priority will be given to (a) projects that bring together Decision Sciences researchers from different departments or researchers who have not previously collaborated, (b) seed projects that are likely to generate pilot data or theory for external grant proposals, (c) projects that allow for the meaningful involvement of graduate and undergraduate students, and (d) projects by researchers who have not been previously funded under this program.

Ohio Sea Grant Releases 2021 Summary of ODHE Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative

Ohio Sea Grant, on behalf of The Ohio State University, The University of Toledo and the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), has released the 2021 research findings update for the statewide Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative (HABRI), which seeks solutions for harmful algal blooms in Ohio.
