Can Fish See the Bait on the Hook? An Exploration of Visual Ecology in the Face of Human-induced Environmental Change
The SENR Seminar Series welcomes Suzanne Gray, Assistant Professor, OSU School of Environment and Natural Resources. She will present Can Fish See the Bait on the Hook? An Exploration of Visual Ecology in the Face of Human-induced Environmental Change in 164 Howlett Hall and 123 Williams Hall.
Aquatic environments are experiencing rapid environmental changes due to human activities on land and in the water. Lake Erie is an excellent example, where harmful algal blooms and increased suspended sediments alter the underwater visual world. For animals to cope with such changes they must have the sensory capabilities to detect and respond to environmental perturbation. In this seminar, Dr. Gray will explore the visual ecology of Lake Erie fishes faced with an altered underwater visual environment. She will also consider ways in which basic research on the visual abilities of fishes can facilitate engagement with Lake Erie anglers and citizen science projects to help us understand if fish can still see the bait on the hook.
The presentation will be available through Carmen Connect at carmenconnect.osu.edu/hook/.
