Environmental Professionals Network Breakfast

Rapid expansion of the oil and gas extraction and transmission industry in Ohio and other parts of the U.S. has brought prosperity and wealth to many communities and residents, increased revenue to local government, and lowered energy prices for consumers. But this expansion has often strained local infrastructure and services and the ability to maintain them and caused environmental damage, while many residents do not receive direct benefits. How can communities maximize the advantages while minimizing problems? What information and research will assist local decision-making?

This EPN July breakfast will be a keynote panel for the second day of the Energy Impacts Symposium at Ohio State. The panel moderator giving introductory remarks for the Community Development in Energy Host Communities program is Sean Logan, JD, President, Sean Logan and Associates, former Chief of Conservation at the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, Director, ODNR, State Representative, and Columbiana County Commissioner. Panelists include: Paul Lapachelle, PhD, Associate Professor and Extension Community Development Specialist, Montana State University; Dave Messersmith, Extension Educator, Marcellus Shale Education Team, Pennsylvania State University; Myra Moss, Associate Professor and Extension Educator, Community Development, Ohio State University; and Paul Thares, Community Development Field Specialist, South Dakota State University Extension.
