Ahead of NOAA’s annual Lake Erie HABs Forecast on June 27, catch up on the background and future of Lake Erie’s HABs with Ohio Sea Grant’s Dr. Chris Winslow. This primer will include up-to-date information on topics such as nutrient sources in the Maumee River watershed that drive blooms, the progress toward meeting nutrient load reduction goals, and best practices for farmers. Dr. Winslow will also provide updates on the state’s Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative research efforts, as well as the Lake Erie and Aquatic Research Network’s wetland research projects for the H2Ohio initiative.

About the Speaker

Dr. Chris Winslow is the Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory. Dr. Winslow studied the behavioral differences between largemouth and smallmouth bass to earn his master’s and Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University (BGSU). As an instructor at BGSU from 2002-2009 and an Assistant Professor at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Winslow taught general biology courses to more than 700 students. Winslow has been a fixture at Stone Laboratory, teaching Aquatic Ecology classes to high school and college students and mentoring college students and their Lake Erie research projects in the lab’s Research Experience for Undergraduates Fellowship Program.
