Name That Tree
The Ohio Woodland Stewards Program is holding a workshop on tree identification. Taught by forestry experts in the college, “Name That Tree” aims to help homeowners and landowners know the types of trees on their property, from oaks to maples and beyond. Organizers say the knowledge can lead to better care of trees since each species has different needs.
The program includes instruction on using a dichotomous key, practice inside with samples and practice outside with trees. A dichotomous key, also called a single-access key, helps a user pinpoint a species through a series of step-by-step choices and a narrowing-down process.
The workshop cost $35 per person and includes lunch. Details and a link to register are athttps://woodlandstewards.osu.edu/events/name-tree-0 or http://www.cvent.com/events/name-that-tree/event-summary-4c0af34c4f1d4a0fa2abd2b6593683d6.aspx
Attending is worth 5 hours of continuing education credit for landowners participating in the Ohio Forest Tax Law Program.
The Woodland Stewards program, administered by CFAES’s School of Environment and Natural Resources, is delivered by the college’s statewide outreach arm, Ohio State University Extension.
