Ecological and Social disturbances are increasing in intensity and frequency. Individual cognitive abilities clearly influence our group ability to adapt to such disturbances. However, the effect of such cognitive abilities is constrained/enhanced by our social and the wider social-ecological network. In this presentation I will show how behavioral experiments, novel methodological advances in network science combined with agent based models, together with lessons learned in common pool resource systems can help us identify the key ingredients for sustainably managing social-ecological systems.
