SENR Seminar Series welcomes Dr. Matthew Sullivan
The School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) welcomes Dr. Matthew Sullivan, professor of Microbiology and director, Center of Microbiome Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University. Dr. Sullivan will present, "Microbiomes matter everywhere and you (Ohio State researchers) have immense support to incorporate mechanistic microbiome capabilities into your own research program" starting at 4:00 p.m. in room 103 Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Road or via Zoom.
Abstract:
Microbes once ‘hidden’ are now thought ‘drivers’ in most ecosystems, and yet understanding complex communities to the point of modulating microbiomes and ecosystem function remains a grand challenge. This talk explores modern microbiome science and how Ohio State is uniquely positioned with a centralized Microbiome Platform to apply genome-resolved microbiome data generation and eco-systems biology analytics approaches to easily integrate microbiome research into your programs. Critically, these capabilities enable such microbiome research, so commonly limited to “correlation” to advance towards “causation and mechanism”. Through this unique Microbiome Platform, Ohio State is playing a leading role in helping build mechanistic and predictive understanding critical to transitioning microbial communities from ‘dysbiotic’ or ‘diseased’ states back towards ‘healthy’ in plants, animals (including humans), soils, oceans, and beyond.
