SENR Seminar Series welcomes Dr. Tom DeSutter

The School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) Seminar Series welcomes Dr. Tom DeSutter, professor of Soil Science at North Dakota State University, who will present, "Reclamation of Soils Post-Energy Extraction: Strategies and Partnerships" starting at 4:00 p.m. in room 103 Kottman Hall.

Abstract: Pipeline corridors, well pads, and spills of oil and produced water present significant environmental and ecological challenges for industries, regulators, and landowners. Our research team investigates the effectiveness of various reclamation strategies for addressing contamination and restoring soil health in these impacted areas. These studies contribute to the development of advanced and innovative reclamation techniques, providing practical guidelines to mitigate the environmental impacts of spills and enhance the recovery and sustainability of highly-disturbed soils. Furthermore, the establishment of a Reclamation Advisory Group, composed of industry, government, private sector, and university partners, has elevated awareness of reclamation strategies and improved communication among stakeholders.
