Your future career could be just a conversation away! Don’t miss the next scheduled Employer Pop-Up on November 12.
The School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) offers students unparalleled opportunities to network with employers every month in an informal setting.
"We’re trying to make it as convenient as possible for SENR students to connect face-to-face with employers who are hiring for current or upcoming positions," said Lucia Hadella, career development coordinator, who along with Meagan Toohey, senior career counselor in SENR organizes the pop-ups. "These events don’t replace career fairs. They are additional chances for students to talk with environmental professionals, and they are chances for us as a school to strengthen our relationships with those professionals."
Five organizations were represented at the September pop-up, four at the October event and six are slated for November, including Columbus Public Health, Environmental Design & Research, Federal Highway Administration – Planning, Environment and Realty Team, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Department of Natural Resources – Division of Wildlife and Rural Action.
"Employers have been enthusiastically receptive to the invitations we’ve extended, which I think speaks to the solid reputation SENR has amongst environment and natural resource professionals in our state. They have given us very positive feedback about their experiences with the pop-ups so far and were impressed with the strong student turnout." – Lucia Hadella
Prioritize Career Development
It’s crucial for students to focus on their career growth and SENR understands that students often have packed schedules. The pop-ups are intentionally casual. Students are welcome to bring resumes, but it’s not expected. They don’t need to dress up or do extensive preparation. Here are some important points to remember:
-
A five-minute conversation with an employer can significantly reduce the time spent on job or internship searches.
-
Each Employer Pop-Up features a manageable number of employers so that you can visit with as many as you like in a short amount of time
In the School of Environment and Natural Resources, our students represent such a breadth of career interests and goals. "We strive to connect with a diversity of employers so that we can increase our own knowledge and impart that onto students," Hadella said. "Ultimately, it is the student’s responsibility to take charge of their career development, and we hope that through employer pop-ups, career fairs, and other events, we are giving them a boost as they pursue fulfilling careers."
Mark your calendars for early January, when SENR unveils another stellar roster of pop-up events for spring designed to jumpstart your career.
