Graduate Students Host Research Symposium

Advancing knowledge and fostering professional development 

School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) graduate students hosted their annual student research symposium on April 22 at the Fawcett Center. The symposium offers an opportunity for all SENR undergraduate and graduate students to highlight their current research and network with environment and natural resources organizations.  

Key highlights of this year’s symposium included two poster sessions with a total of 22 posters on display and two oral presentation sessions featuring 12 talks, a luncheon and the presentation of awards sponsored by Ohio Sea Grant, the Ohio Environmental Council, Davey Resource Group, and the Water Management Association of Ohio. 

The following students were recognized with awards: 

Aidan McCarthy - Using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data to model green salamander habitat in Ohio recognized for Best Oral Presentation, sponsored by the Ohio Sea Grant 

Marissa Roseman - Genomic consequences of population isolation in Timber Rattlesnakes for Best Graduate Research Poster, sponsored by the Ohio Environmental Council A group of award winners holding certificates.

Lillian Labus - How the treatment of harmful algal blooms by nanobubble ozone technology affect lake nutrients for Best Graduate Research Poster, sponsored by the Ohio Environmental Council 

Sarah Grace O'Donnell - Brood success and climate change: How temperature affects reproductive output in a freshwater fish for Best Undergraduate Research Poster, sponsored by Davey Resource Group 

Anna Rose - Tick infestation and pathogen consequences for Ohio Appalachian breeding bird species for Best Research Proposal Poster, sponsored by the Water Management Association of Ohio
