Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture was created for the next generation of students interested in an overview of growing sustainable farms and enterprises in resilient food systems. This interdisciplinary course provides you with the issues, concepts and practices associated with sustainable agriculture, which is a complex social‐ecological system integrating a wide range of social, economic, and environmental considerations. This course provides you with opportunities to connect principles with experiential learning activities that take place in your local food system, either in person or virtually
In this course, students will:
- Understand and apply “sustainability” to crop and livestock systems
- Assess management practices influencing crop and livestock production systems
- Understand social, economic, ecological and political forces shaping agriculture
- Develop a systems perspective to more effectively understand and design agricultural systems
- Engage diverse perspectives in agriculture and explore various sides to controversial issues
