Dr. Konrad Dabrowski’s aquaculture lab in the School of Environment and Natural Resources attended “Aquaculture America” in Honolulu, HI to present recent research conducted at The Ohio State University.

The lab collectively gave 6 oral presentations covering topics of cichlid, cyprinid, salmonid and percid fish species hybridization, hormonal sex reversal, polyploidy induction, and nutrition (listed below).

The conference was attended by over 1000 scientists from all over the world and included a trade show with over 150 companies showcasing products ranging from animal feeds to submersible rovers to assess open water aquaculture cages/pens. It presented a great opportunity to network, learn, and discuss with other researchers the current hurdles that face the aquaculture industry and the direction that it is heading in the coming years.

While at the conference the US Aquaculture Society (USAS) officially announced the approval of a new student USAS sub-unit at Ohio State. Making Ohio State one of only four universities with such units in the country. A collaborator with the lab, Dr. Bill Shelton, was also awarded the Distinguished Life-time Achievement award at the conference.

Other than participating in the conference and its events the lab had the opportunity to spend time climbing a volcanic cone at Diamond Head State Monument (which had some stunning views). We also made sure to spend some time enjoying the beach which included surfing and swimming with a sea turtle!
