Restoration of Great Black Swamp to Save Lake Erie

April 12, 2017

A new magazine article in MIT’s Undark, “Learning to Love the Great Black Swamp”, written by Sharon Levy, features restoration of portions of the Great Black Swamp in NW Ohio and highlights Professor Emeritus William (Bill) Mitsch’s idea, as well as other scientists, and officials thoughts on how to address algae in Lake Erie’s western basin in light of the transformation from wetlands to agricultural fields. Bill will soon be starting his 6th academic year in September 2017 as Eminent Scholar, Spoule Endowed Chair, and Director, Everglades, Wetland Research Park in Naples FL. He and his wife Ruthmarie reside in Upper Arlington in the summers.
