Today, February 2nd is World Wetlands Day. Wetlands are important landscape features that provide numerous beneficial services for people and wildlife. For example, wetlands protect and improve water quality, provide flood protection, and harbor high levels of biodiversity. This year’s theme is “Wetlands for a sustainable urban future”: http://www.worldwetlandsday.org. Did you know we have our own internationally-recognized urban wetland complex on the north end of The Ohio State University's Columbus campus? At the Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park (ORWRP), we integrate teaching, research, and outreach on water quality in wetlands as well as in streams, rivers, lakes, and coastal ecosystems. Find out more about the ORWRP here.
