Students in “ENR 3335.02- Wildland Fire Lab” had the opportunity to participate in the 8th prescribed burn at The Larry R. Yoder Prairie Learning Laboratory on the Ohio State Marion campus. The course is taught by Dr. Roger Williams, associate professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) and Mr. Mike Bowden, a lecturer in the SENR.
Through the years, students enrolled in the course sequence have had the opportunity to engage in a prescribed burn from start to finish at several different sites and have learned about the important role of wildland fire suppression and the role of fire management for restoration.
Read more about the course and discover how the course prepares students, including the opportunity to earn Incident Qualification Cards, commonly known as red cards, which enables them to work on wildland fire crews and prescribed burns.
