A Glance at Audrey’s Current Work
My current position is hybrid as the Partner Success Account Specialist for IGS Solar in Dublin, OH. IGS Solar is part of the larger business of IGS Energy headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
A day to day in my job changes frequently. I'm often meeting with our residential solar partners to hear of challenges they may be facing with permitting, scheduling, & successfully installing residential solar. I then work with partners to see how IGS can support with these challenges and any challenges they may be facing with IGS's platform. My day to day also involves pulling, analyzing, & presenting data on projects in partner's pipeline as well as pulling data on IGS Solar's processes to examine opportunities for improvements. I also work closely with our Business Development team to train & support new partners on IGS Solar's requirements. In addition, I support the Quality Assurance team with communication to partners on trends noticed on partners submission. I also support the Quality Assurance team in solar installation reviews, ensuring high quality installations and necessary requirements are met.
The most rewarding part of my current job is knowing I am supporting a clean energy transition and reducing the reliance on fossil fuels across the US.
Professional Development
What were you involved in during college?
My freshman year was COVID so I was involved as much as anyone could be in clubs like Net Impact & Mountaineers (just virtual meetings). I was also part of the SUSTAINS Learning Community both my freshman & sophomore year, which was a great opportunity to meet like minded people interested in learning about sustainability. My sophomore year I also became more involved in clubs like Mountaineers going on climbing & backpacking trips around the US. Outside of this involvement, I was a SENR Peer Mentor supporting first year & transfer students with their transition to college & to SENR.
While I was a student, I had a few on-campus jobs. My freshman & sophomore year I was an OA (Office Assistant) at Scott House. My junior year, I had the pleasure of working with Tom Reeves as a Student Sustainability Lead for the Office of Student Life. As a Student Sustainability Lead, I scheduled and managed educational programs around campus on recycling & composting. I had two summer internships while I was a student. I interned for Clear Harbors as an Environmental Technician Intern in Denver, Colorado. As an Environmental Technician intern, I gained both office & field experience. The office experience included maintaining inventory, preparing schedules, and printing and preparing DOT & EPA certified waste labels. In the field, I assisted Chemists with safely handling & disposing of hazardous waste. My second internship was with American Structurepoint as an Environmental Intern which also involved both office & field experience. In the office, I produced maps using ArcGIS and drafted Wetland Determination & Delineation Reports. In the field, I assisted the Environmental Scientist with stream quality evaluation and wetland determinations. Any internships and on-campus jobs prepared me for entering the workforce and allowed me to apply lessons from classes to real-world scenarios.
What advice would you give to someone who is still in college and hoping to do what you do?
My advice for someone still in college would be to get involved! Whether that's a club, school job, internship, etc. involvement will not only give you experience for future jobs but also help you find out what you do & don't enjoy. This will ultimately make it easier for you to find positions you're interested in once you're no longer a student.
What experience do you feel was most valuable in your professional development?
The experience that was most valuable in my professional development was actually my first job right out of school as a Rotation Analyst at IGS. The rotation program is designed for graduates that are interested in the energy industry but don't know exactly where within that they fit in. As a rotation analyst, every 3 months you rotate to a new department within IGS including commodity, solar, & support departments such as Marketing or IT. This program taught me to be flexible, gave me the opportunity to network across departments, and to understand how each department at IGS fits together to reach IGS strategic missions.
What was a challenge you faced in your professional development and how did you overcome it?
A challenge I faced in my professional development was not knowing where to start and what I truly wanted to do within the environmental/sustainable industry. The rotation program at IGS allowed me to overcome this by giving me the opportunity to experience multiple areas of the business and determine where my interests and passions lie.
Post-Graduation
What did you do immediately post-graduation?
After graduation I had about 2 months before starting my full-time job at IGS. I traveled to the UK & France after graduation and spent some time traveling to see friends and family in the US as well.
There was nothing specific that helped me decide what to do after graduation. However, I did consider my long-term goals when applying for jobs and having a job with hybrid/remote flexibility would help me reach those goals, both personal and professional.
What was most important to you in your job search?
The most important thing to me in a job search was that the position was related to my major. I picked EEDS as I wanted to make an impact and have a profession that helped address environmental problems & climate change. I also did not want to settle for a job or company whose values didn't align with my own. The culture and mission of the company is very important for your day to day work, work life balance, & helping you feel fulfilled in your work.
