As part of our just-awarded NSERC CREATE training program in Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Sustainability (BESS: www.mcgill.ca/bess/), we seek applicants for a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University in association with UQÀM and Université Laval. Candidates could be based at any of these institutions, but strong ties would be expected to McGill University where the program will be coordinated. Preference will be given to candidates with bold ideas, demonstrated research ability, and strong communication skills. A working knowledge of Spanish is essential and applicants must have obtained their PhD within the last five years. Applicants will be evaluated on the quality of their research proposal, their leadership and collaboration abilities, communication skills, academic excellence, and their vision to contribute to the BESS program. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original research on core problems in the neotropical environment, foster interactions within BESS, run a seminar series, and organize a retreat.
BESS provides partial funding for this position (~$27,000) with the rest expected to come from other sources, most often the collaborating faculty supervisor. Thus, potential applicants need to first contact one of the BESS co-PIs, in consultation with whom the applicant will prepare the following materials.
1. Curriculum vitae
2. Two letters of reference
3. Scientific goals and research plan relevant to BESS (the co-PI can provide more details on BESS – the website is still under development) – MAXIMUM TWO PAGES
4. A funding plan agreed upon with you and your proposed faculty supervisor – MAXIMUM ONE PAGE
*Deadline to apply*: June 19, 2015.
