Don is interested in trying to make timber harvesting practices as ecologically friendly as possible. He’s studying the impending transformation of oak forests to maple forests on the Wayne National Forest, and the implications for understory plants. He has a background in forestry and journalism, and has worked as a tech for research projects in Wisconsin, as a tech for the Forest Service in Montana, and as a policy intern for the Society of American Foresters in Washington D.C. He is an active member of the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Lab, and likes to be in the know about wildlife issues. He is co-advised by Stephen Matthews and David Hix.
