Joseph Opoku Gakpo, PhD

Joseph Opoku Gakpo is the Communications Specialist for From The Ground Up (FTGUp) Project and the Northeast Ohio Ag Innovation Center (NEO–AIC) in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR). Originally from Ghana, Joseph has over 15 years of experience as a science/agricultural journalist and communications consultant. His work has earned him more than a dozen journalism awards, including the 2018 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists’ Best Video Journalist award. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education and Human Sciences from North Carolina State University. He additionally holds an M.A. in Liberal Studies, an M.A. in Communication Studies, and a B.Sc. in Agricultural Biotechnology. Joseph is also a 2016 Global Leadership Fellow of Cornell University’s Alliance for Science program. A passionate storyteller, he uses integrated, people-centered communication approaches to raise awareness about the complexities, challenges, and successes of the global food system.
