    Matthew Shumar has been elected to serve as President of the Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO). Shumar is the program coordinator for the Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative, where he works closely with other members of the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Lab in the School of Environment and Natural Resources and provides leadership for programs such as Ohio Lights Out.

    Gift cements collaborative alliance in wetland, waterfowl, and wildlife ecology

    A longstanding partnership and shared vision of protecting, restoring, and enhancing wetland habitat and wildlife is the impetus behind a new gift of $1 million to The Ohio State University.

    The donation from Winous Point Marsh Conservancy of Port Clinton, Ohio, and investment from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife to Ohio State cements a longstanding relationship to support and advance partnership-driven collaborative research and educational opportunities in wetland, waterfowl, and wildlife ecology.

    The gift establishes the Winous Point Wetlands and Waterfowl Endowed Faculty Support Fund and will fuel innovative solutions to wetlands and waterfowl conservation and management challenges. Learn more >>

    Greg Lipps receives Columbus Zoo’s Commitment to Conservation Award

    COLUMBUS—The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has named Greg Lipps of The Ohio State University as recipient of its 2023 Commitment to Conservation Award.
    Lipps, a leader in Ohio amphibian and reptile conservation in Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Resources (CFAES), understands the vital role zoos play in conservation. He also serves as the amphibian & reptile conservation coordinator in the Ohio Biodiversity Conservation Partnership, a long-term relationship between Ohio State and the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Read more >>

    Four champions of Ohio's environment were recognized at the Environmental Professionals Network breakfast and field-tour event on June 5, 2023. Held on World Environment Day, the event recognized Jon Gerken, John O'Meara, Ric Queen, and Dorothy Teater, who were inducted into the ENR Honorary 100. The Honorary 100 recognizes individuals with a special interest in the school, its programs and activities.

    Eric Toman, interim director of the School of Environment and Natural Resources presided over the induction ceremony and Cathann A. Kress, Ohio State’s vice president for agricultural administration and dean of CFAES shared words in acknowledgement of Ohio's envrionment and its champions. To date there have been 134 individuals inducted into the Honorary 100. Learn more about the Honorees and the Honorary 100.

  7. Dr. Shoshanah Inwood

    Faculty member Shoshanah Inwood is the in-coming president of the Agriculture, Food, & Human Values Society (AFHVS).  The AFHVS founded in 1987 promotes interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the broad areas of agriculture and rural studies. Dr. Inwood will assume the role of President at the upcoming 2023 Association for the Study of Food and Society and AFHVS annual conference, Knowing Food hosted by Boston University’s Metropolitan College.

    Graduate student recognized for exceptional leadership

    Join SENR in congratulating Iresha Jayasinghe, who was named a recipient of the 2022-2023 Graduate Associate Leadership Award. The Graduate Associate Leadership Award (GALA) is Ohio State’s recognition of the exceptional leadership provided by graduate students as leaders (on and off campus) while being an OSU graduate (master’s or doctoral) student. A ceremony to celebrate the GALA leaders was held on April 26 at the Ohio Union Performance Hall.

    Simon Power, a Post Doctoral Scholar in the School of Environment and Natural Resources was chosen as one of three Postdoctoral Scholar Mentor of the Year Award Recipients! This award recognizes exceptional mentoring abilities and service to the trainees and colleagues they interact with in their scholarship! Please join SENR in congratulating Simon on this award!

  10. SENR Leadership Announcement

    Associate Professor Steve Lyon to join the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) leadership team. Effective March 15, Dr. Lyon will begin serving as the Associate Director for the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) on the Wooster campus.
