“Initially, I wasn’t sure how much I liked teaching,” CFAES faculty member Suzanne Gray said in a 2018 interview, just after receiving a prestigous teaching award. “I think it’s something I grew into as I saw how I could help provide students with experiences they might never have had.” Gray did that interview after receiving the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching from The Ohio State University, Ohio State’s highest recognition for teaching excellence. Now, two years later, the quality of her teaching has been honored again. On Nov. 4, Gray, who is an associate professor of aquatic physiological biology in the CFAES School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR), was named a winner of the Early Career Teacher Award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The national award goes to new teachers in higher education—ones with no more than seven consecutive years of experience—who demonstrate “a commitment to a career in teaching” and who exhibit “meritorious teaching.”
