London Michel

michel.216@osu.edu
Hometown: Powell, Ohio
Major: Environmental Science
Specialization: Honors Research Path

Career Interests:  After graduating I hope to work in the National Parks out west for a year and then attend graduate school (hopefully abroad). Eventually I would like to do environmental field-based research!

Favorite Part of SENR/OSU: SENR honestly feels like its own community and family within Ohio State. I love the smaller size of SENR because it allows you to have a ton of classes with a lot of the same people which has helped me create some amazing friendships! The faculty are also so passionate about their fields of study and research which makes class so exciting and engaging! SENR also has so many amazing hands-on learning opportunities like Stone Lab and Study Abroad trips!

Internship/Research Experience: This past summer I co-directed a nonprofit summer camp that helps kids develop their sensory skills through nature-based activities called TimberNook! I got to help on the planning and operations side and helped pilot a new camp style. I am also currently in the process of finding a faculty member to advise me on my honors research project.

Other Campus Involvements:

  • OSU Water and Climate Collective
  • Student Alumni Council (SAC)
  • Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations (SCNO)
  • Sierra Club

Hometown: Lewis Center, Ohio
Major: Environmental Science
Specialization: Soil Resources and Environmental Sustainability

Career Interests: I want to get into shark research and conservation, especially nurse sharks!

Favorite Part of SENR/OSU: I love how much the faculty are there for the students! I can go to any of the faculty for advice. Plus, the students are all super cool and since we all share similar interests, its super easy to get along with everyone.

Internship/Research Experience: I worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Alum Creek dam which supplies water to the entire city of Columbus, OH. I would ensure the dam was working, raise it to the proper levels, check the water quality, and help ensure the park was running smoothly. I also worked in a plant pathology lab and ran research to find out how humidity impacts the infection levels of cabbage.

Other Campus Involvements:

  • International Affairs Scholars
  • Buckeyethon
